The Poop Strike.
This story has been brought to you by Thaya's Mommy. If you don't want to read about poop, then close your browser. Only poop talk beyond this point!
It is amazing how important poop can become.
Thaya has been pooping 3-4 times a day around the same time every day, for about 5 weeks. From her birth to about 6 weeks ago, she was pooping after (or during) every feeding. I mean, obviously she isn't going to be going off to college with 3-4 seedy poops a day. It has to change at some point, right? Well, that time is now, and I feel completely out of sorts.
Everything was fine on Saturday, until Thaya started her poop strike.
Sunday, I remember thinking, "man, she is going to explode tomorrow, she hasn't pooped in almost 24 hours!". Monday came and went poop free. I was getting nervous. I called the doctor and he calmed me down a bit. He reminded me that babies change, and so does their regularity. "Ok", I said, agreeing with him that she'll probably explode on Tuesday. I decided to try to help the poop along, regardless. We went to the store and got some prune juice. I know if I "up" my fiber, it will affect her. I had 8 oz Monday night, 8 oz Tuesday morning, and another 8 oz Tuesday night (that's right, 24oz in 24 hours. The lengths we go to for our children). During this time, I was also doing exercises with her to help it along. Well, no explosion Tuesday, or even Wednesday for that matter. Just a lot of gas. It was like looking for a diamond and getting a crystal. Still pretty, but not what you really want (did I just compare my child's poop to a diamond?? I told you I've been crazy about this).
By Wednesday I was getting a little hysterical about it. Whenever I would put her down, she would start screaming (this child rarely cries. Usually just whimpers and whines), and when I would pick her up she would go sort of limp and just lay on me, listless. I called the doctor. He said give her a suppository, it has been too long with no poop. So, I called in reinforcements. My mom, dad, and DH all came to my rescue. about 20 minutes after the suppository, she went, but it was like pudding and it wasn't seedy. It also wasn't enough.
So, yesterday we went to see him. Call me crazy, but we're leaving for Myrtle Beach today, and I'm not about to pick up and go to South Carolina without a green light from Dr. B. After a full exam (Thaya is up to 12lbs, 2oz!!) he told us that 1) there is/was a blockage 2) giveher the suppository if she goes 3 days with no poop 3) it could take up to 2 weeks to work itself out and 4) this may be a sign she is ready for food.
Wait, what?!?!

3 more days of pears and then we'll try sweet potatoes! What foods did your babies like when they first started food?
By the way, Thaya has a new favorite song! Baby Baluga, by Mommy (that's me!). She also likes to hear Raffi sing it. I have a video, but seeing as I've already posted 3, I'll let Thaya post that video next week.
Have a great week!
Love,
Mommy
