31 :: 365 :: Admission

I have to let you all in on a little secret. I mainly (ok, it's basically an exclusive thing) shoot in Aperture Priority on my camera. Something about the "M" scares me. Last night I was reading inspirational blogs (you know, the usu' - shutter sister, pioneer woman...) and I said to myself, "What is this 30 days all about? It is about learning, letting go, improving!" I decided to step outside the aperture and into The M.

It wasn't so bad. In fact, I walked away with a better ratio of "oooh, cool!" than "ugh".

Out of all my pictures, this was my favorite. I'm just crazy about it. I don't know why, but this just totally encompasses everything that is my daughter to me.

For example, I asked her if she wanted some snack and she said "Heck Yea!"

She's not even 2 yet.

I looked at this picture and I said "wow, that pink is 'heck yea' pink, SO Thaya!"

I was itchin' to build a fort with Thaya today and was inspired by Gardenymph to step it up from my usual "card table + sheet" equation. What happened was magical!

I sectioned off the half of the dining room table that we don't use and covered it in a sheet. I added as many colorful and comfy sheets and blankets that I could dig up. I instructed Thaya to go find "some books and guys" to play with us inside.

As she did that, I tested out of cafe lights to make sure they wouldn't get too hot. They were as cool as a cucumber, so I stuck those in too!

We've already had tons of fun, and can't wait until daddy gets home to join in on the fun. Too bad it isn't bigger, we'd all be able to eat dinner under there!

We're all happy it is Friday. We're looking forward to a weekend together as a family, maybe do some fun activities, and some super bowl festivities on Sunday.

We've all got clean sheets, clean clothes, and a clean kitchen. Now, for the rest of the house...

Thaya toddled around while I took pictures in the garden with my new lens (which I LOVE). The ground was covered in snow, but not the soft fluffy kind. It was the hard crunchy kind, perfect for marching in. She followed closely behind me, attempting to pull up chunks from where my steps formed prints in the snow.

Here she is, having found a particularly delicious looking piece of crunchy snow, munching away.

It is very difficult to get pictures of this child that are relatively in the frame and aren't out of focus.

Even in this picture, I can see her eyes screaming at me because she wants to run around. I'm holding her hand keeping her in place for the 1/60 of a second it takes to get this picture. She is not happy.

On a side note, I'm getting a new lens in the mail today, and I am beyond exciting. I am getting the Canon 50mm f/1.4 usm lens. I can't believe it. I'll happily be clicking away this evening because I can!

My word is rediscover.

All day long she climbs. On the chairs, on the tables, on the beds, on anything she can find. In the morning - she climbs on me.

In case you are interested Shutter Sisters are putting on a new photo project called the One Word Project. My word is rediscover. I've already started taking some photos for this, though the project doesn't start until February 1st.

Sometimes the days start so early, it is hard to focus.

She is attached to my hip today. I could hardly get five minutes to upload this. As we speak she is wailing in the other room for me. Her sister is doing a similar "mommy call" for milk and sleep.

If only I had to more arms to hold them.

I originally thought that I would do just the girls for my 365 project, but this picture seems to capture today better than any other picture I could take. To me if feels like winter, cold, a little dark and melancholy.

Just so you know, Brie is hysterical right now because Thaya is running around in just her socks.

Today started out a little rocky. So far, we've done a whole lot of nothing. It is a slow day, despite the slightly warmer weather and shining sun.

Some days we just don't get along with each other, or ourselves for that matter. We all took a time out. We all went into separate rooms and took a deep breath. We came back together for breakfast a little more positive, and are tentatively starting our day.

There is a lot to do today, none of it do I feel like doing. The house is a mess and needs to be cleaned. The laundry has been sitting in the washer since yesterday and probably stinks. None of us are dresses yet, and it is almost 10.

I think it is just going to be one of those days.

Fort Fun
