Father's Day

Happy Father's Day :)

Peek

Granna has requested (and requested) the picture of Thaya peeking out her new bedroom window. I couldn't resist putting it in a page because it is pretty darn cute.

Enjoy :)

For the Birds

Pottery Barn Kids had a sale on some cutie bird houses - how could we resist?  I think this is the beginning of a very cool collection on Thaya's wall.  I'm glad i added the houses, and I'm thinking I may just leave the tree as is.  I think I'll have to look at it for awhile before I really decide.

The two picture frame houses are my favorite, but I'm wondering if I should get another - especially if I plan to slowly add more houses to the wall.  They have it in yellow, so it may be sort of neat to have it.

Thaya's indifference clearly proves that she is too young to appreciate how awesome her mom is and how awesome her room is!  Just give her time, she'll come around.

Adventures in self-feeding

Thaya, AKA "little miss independence", is a picky eater. It isn't the taste of the food, it is the texture, or how we're feeding her, or when we're feeding her, or if a bug the size of a spec of dust flies by the window, of if there are only a gazillion starts shinning and not a gazillion and one, or if somewhere on the planet a squirrel is running across the road, or... or... the list goes on.

She wants what we have all the time - fine, it makes my job easier. However, some nights what we are having she cannot have (read salad and probable asphyxiation - not my idea of a good time). It is at these times that I depend heavily on distraction. Singing, making stupid noises and faces, reading labels and pointing to pictures, pointing to objects around the room, or even sticking the laptop in front of her and letting her watch Curious George dance to a Soul Child remix on youtube (don't you judge me - look how skinny she is, you can see her ribs. The child has to eat SOMETHING, and sticking the very tip of her minuscule finger into yogurt and licking it doesn't count as something!!! I interact, I sing along! I also name the animals and colors - but not too loudly because if she actually hears me or sees me or senses me in some way the eating will stop).

So what is a tired, pregnant, cranky mama to do?

Strip the child down and let her have her way with a spoon and a bowl full of hummus.

When she finishes off the humus, I add some color by pouring in some pureed carrots (which, by the way, are stickier and easier to get on the spoon when mixed with hummus - yuck). I'm sure peas or beans or even some squash would have worked too.

When she is done with the carrots and the hummus (and I decide not to push my luck by adding anything else) I hand her a box of soy milk (that's right, they sell boxes of soy milk just like boxes of juice) and let my toddler maneuver the straw into her mouth and sip (and blow and squeeze) into that straw until every last drop is gone - which doesn't usually take too long.

We finally end the night with a bath, a cuddle, a kiss, and a night-night (all of which takes about 15 minutes tops - I'm tired and at this point there is nothing standing between me and my bed).

So, what crazy things have you had to do to get your toddler to eat? And what foods will even the most distractable, ornery, cranky eaters eat?

Water Play

We had a very nice weekend. Nana and Pop pop came to visit, spending Saturday afternoon down the shore with us. We headed out to Surf City on LBI, probably one of the best decisions we made all weekend. Temperatures hit 100 at our house, but LBI is 4 miles off the coast of NJ and if the wind is blowing in the right direction, it is about 20 degrees cooler. This was the case on Saturday, we were all wishing we had brought some cover-ups!

The rest of the weekend involved hanging around, Italian Ices, errands, and fun in the back of the house. It was nice to spend the time together as a family.

Unfortunately the weekend ended with most of us feeling run down and out of sorts. Hopefully our spirits with pick back up in the next day or so, right now we all feel blah with fatigue and upset tummies.

Hope you had a nice weekend and are enjoying your week so far!

Beach Baby

I put together a page using the photo I took over Memorial Day weekend. I think it's cute :) I'm going to try to start making some spreads instead of just individual pages. I think that will give me some more options when I put them together in a book.

So, what do you think? And have you found any good free kits lately?

I've been knitting

Just some FOs to share with you all :)  All of them are on my Ravelry page if you are interested in the specs.

Hemlock Ring Blanket blocking

Cabled Baby Hat

Textured Cuff Bootees.  Hmmm... looks like I have a little finger print on my lense.  Where could that have come from?

Another peek

Ok, first I need to inform you that my camera, my lovely, wonderful, expensive Canon is fine - but the battery isn't.  It lasts for about 5 pictures and then goes caput.  Aye aye aye.  So, please excuse these terrible washed out photos.  The combination of a rainy day and a point and shoot just spelled disaster.  I couldn't even process them well :(

I knit a Hemlock Ring Blanket?  When did that happen?  Well, I started and finished it in January as a blanket for the new baby.  When I noticed how ridiculously large it was, it was pushed aside (read: thrown on a chair in the TV room to be ignored for 4 months).  I decided it was time to give it a bath and a good blocking!  It is back in the TV room blocking on the rug (because, like I said it is ridiculously large).  Pictures of that on another day, but I will tell you that I was very aggressive, and there are no ripples in my Hemlock Ring Blanket (do people just not know how to block well?  I really had no problem getting it to go flat).

Here are a few sneak peeks at a nearly finished toddler room.  Here you see that the pictures, curtains, and butterflies are hung, and it really has started feeling like a finished space.

Here is another angle of the tree, and curtains :)

Here is a shot of the shelf I put over the changing pad and the little bird hook that I use to hold Thaya's PJs during the day.  Too cute!

And, the best part of the room? The closet!!!! I love it!  We designed and ordered the shelving unit from The Container Store, and it was such a great investment (read: expensive $$$ but worth it!).  I want to do all of the closets in the house now!

Now I'll leave you with a picture of Thaya because I seriously couldn't get over how cute she looked today.  If you remember, she has been wearing that bolero since she was first born, a real "grow with me" sweater!  I'm going to have to make a couple for #2 :)

Blur

Meet my daughter, Blur.

Here she models her sister's Tulip sweater.  This is a 6-9 month size, and I'm glad it is fitting her now because that means it will fit her darling sister when she is 1+ next September.

Here Blur models how fast she is growing.  If you can catch her when she is still, she looks like such a big girl.  All my plans of keeping her small forever aren't working out.

Would you look at that!  A moment of calm.  Don't move, you may startle her into another unending flurry of movement and activity.  What could possible catch her attention and keep her so still?  Bears at the zoo.  She was amazed, and clearly in awe.

Beach Day

We spent yesterday afternoon down the shore and had an amazing time. Thaya was crazy about the blanket, the sand, the toys, the water, the sand, the water, the water, and having a whole afternoon with her Mama and Dada. We definitely have a little beach bum on our hands.

We spent today at the park, but of course the battery one the camera died right as I took the first picture. Oh well.

Hope you had a great weekend. Can't wait to see your pictures :)
